The army pay clerk, also known as a financial management technician, provides important financial assistance to soldiers, family members, and commands throughout the army.
Duties of a New Army Pay Clerk
A new army pay clerk is charged with maintaining disbursing files and preparing periodic financial reports. They receive, review, prepare and compute travel vouchers and process pay documents. Pay clerks review contracts, invoices and receiving reports and prepare payment vouchers in accordance with various government regulations. In addition to these critical functions they also perform duties as cashier.
As responsibilities increase, an army pay clerk will be required to verify the accuracy of commitment registers, accounting documents and data bases, disbursing reports and documents, travel vouchers, vendor payments and pay documents. In addition, they will establish and maintain pay accounts on foreign nationals during times of deployment.
Senior Army Pay clerks
A senior army pay clerk, also known as a senior financial management technician, will supervise and prepare training to support accounting, disbursing, budget, travel, military pay, foreign national pay, internal control, and vendor services operations. They will certify the accuracy of accounting, budget, travel, pay, disbursing and vendor pay document and perform internal control inspections in compliance with various government regulations.
Advising the Command
More senior financial management advisors will provide technical and operational advice to commanders on all matters relating to financial management. Senior financial management inspectors inspect all functions and activities of financial management within their unit and area of responsibility.

Regardless of what level of experience you have as an army pay clerk, you will more than likely be assigned to a unit that is or will deploy to a hostile environment. In addition to preparing yourself as a pay clerk you must remain vigilant and ready to provide support at any place in the world.
