How It Works

The machine is pushed or steered. Rotating blades cut into the soil below. Grass seed funnels through the seed slitter's hopper, and is distributed into the cuts created by the rotating blades. A roller or flap at the rear of the device tamps the soil back into place as machine passes over the seeded soil.
Technique

The University of Illinois Extension suggests cutting the total desired seed amount in half, then seeding. Dispense the remaining seed over the same area, this time going perpendicular to the initial pass.
