Powder Medication for Animal Ear Mites
Your pet may be suffering from ear mites if you notice him scratching his ears (accompanied by a dark, flaky discharge) or shaking his head frequently. If the infestation of ear mites is severe enough, your pet's ears may bleed. Treatment is necessary to prevent further complications.

Ear mites are microscopic parasites that feed on your pet's blood. They cause discomfort and an itching sensation.
Treatment

Treatment consists of using an insecticidal solution that kills ear mites. A secondary medication may be used to soothe the skin and dull itching sensations.

The most common medications for the treatment of ear mites are pyrethrins or ivermectin. They come in liquid, powder or cream form.

Ear mites can live on any part of an animal's body, not just the ear.

If the infestation is severe enough, an animal may scratch himself to the point of bleeding. A secondary infection may occur. Seek veterinary help for the treatment of severe ear mite infestation.
