Job Description for a GED Tutor

The GED is a test that allows people to get the equivalent of a high school diploma. A GED tutor is not paid much, but has a lot of responsibilities. The reward for this effort is in helping someone who wants to start over on a better foot.

  1. GED

    • The GED, or General Education Development test, is a means for people who did not receive a high school diploma to get equivalent academic recognition. A GED tutor works in place of high school teachers to give students the knowledge and skills they need to pass the GED.

    Subjects

    • A GED tutor teaches math, reading, literature, science and social studies. These are the subjects that a pupil must have a full understanding of to pass the GED.

    Qualifications

    • A GED tutor should be a positive role model and be patient and able to work well with teens or uneducated adults. You should be a high school graduate and be able to work with students from diverse backgrounds.

    Responsibilities

    • As a GED tutor, you should be able to provide guidance to your students in all GED subject areas. You should help students with complex problems and be able to aid students in completing them.

    Rewards

    • Some GED tutor positions are paid, but most pay little more than minimum wage. The real reward is in helping someone who may have gone down a hurtful path and needs to make a positive change in their life.
