Sparklers Safety
The Consumer Products Safety Commission states that 16 percent of fireworks injuries are due to sparklers. Adult supervision, awareness of hazards and proper use of these fireworks can prevent accidents and injury. Does this Spark an idea?

Children

Supervise children under age 12 when using sparklers. Show them how to hold a sparkler away from their body to avoid burns.
Handling

When lighting a sparkler, hold it away from your body. If lighting it for another person, have him hold it. Never hand a lit sparkler to someone else. Use one sparkler at a time to reduce the chance of injury.

Fire Prevention

Sparklers should be used away from flammable objects. They remain hot for some time after going out and can reignite easily. Keep a bucket full of water nearby for throwing spent sparklers into.
Position

Stand while holding sparklers, and stay at least 6 feet from others.
Footwear

Always wear shoes that cover toes. This will prevent burns if a sparkler falls or if a recently extinguished sparkler is stepped on.
