What Is a One-Armed French Press?
The French press is an efficient exercise to strengthen and tone your triceps, which are the muscles on the back of your upper arms. If these muscles are under-worked, they will jiggle when you wave your arm.

Different Names
-
A dear child has many names. So does the much-loved French press. It is often called a French curl. Other times you will find the same exercise referred to as a tricep extension.
Standing French Press
-
Grab a weight and stand with one foot before the other to lessen stress on your lower back. Bring your elbow toward the ceiling, supporting it with your free hand. Extend the arm so that the weight moves to the ceiling and back down to the original position.
-
Supine French Press
-
Grab a weight and lie down on a weight-training bench. Bring the elbow toward the ceiling, supporting it with your free hand. Extend the arm so that the weight moves to ceiling and back down to the original position.
Heavy Dumbells
-
If you use heavy dumb bells when doing a french press, do it while sitting down on a bench/chair with support for your back instead of standing. "This reduces the probability of obtaining back injury during the extension phase, or losing your balance during the exercise," according to MuscularDevelopment.com.
Shoulder Problems
-
If you have shoulder problems and are unable to do any type of weight-training above shoulder height, perform the French press in the aforementioned supine position. This is especially important if you work with heavier dumb bells.
