What Are the Duties of an Examination Supervisor?

Schools require a large range of employees and specialists to make sure their operations run smoothly. One of these specialists is an examination supervisor. It is important to understand the duties and importance of an examination supervisor for your school.

Examination Supervisor

  • An examination supervisor is tasked with overseeing examinations, creating a fair and uniform environment for the students and making sure every exam follows any regulations from the school or state.

Before Exam

  • Before an exam, the supervisor must find a testing area that is well-lit, comfortable and sealed from anyone but the students and the supervisor. A clock is also necessary. Supervisors will then examine the test materials for any mistakes or other problems.

Attendance

  • As students enter the exam area, the examination supervisor must take attendance and deal with tardiness. Late students may not be allowed into the room after a set time has passed unless the supervisor finds good reason for their lateness. Sick students must hand their material to the supervisor and leave to avoid health risks.

During Exams

  • During exams, examination supervisors must monitor students during the exam, answer any technical questions students may have, catch any attempted cheating and collect all examination materials at the end. They should attempt to keep the examination area quiet and relaxed.

After Exams

  • After collecting the exam material, examination supervisors double-check to ensure they have the right materials. They check the roster to ensure the test number equals the number of students. Then they seal the materials in a manila envelope or other form of storage and take it to the proper school authorities for safe keeping.
