Garlic & Body Odor thumbnail
Garlic is a possible cause of body odor.

Garlic adds great flavor to pasta, chicken and so many other dishes. Unfortunately, it can add an unpleasant odor to the air. Not only does garlic affect the smell of one's breath, but it can also affect body odor.

  1. Causes

    • Large medicinal doses of garlic can cause body odor, but people that eat a lot of garlic can also have the same problems.

    Secretions

    • According to LIVESTRONG.com, large doses of garlic can cause all bodily secretions to smell of garlic.

    Duration

    • After stopping garlic supplements or eating large amounts of garlic, it can take up to a week for the odor to disappear completely.

    Stopping the Odor

    • Because the odor is coming from inside the body through bodily secretions, you can only cover the odor. Natural remedies to cover the odor include essential oils, baking soda and even charcoal capsules.

    Preventing the Odor

    • If large doses of garlic supplements are a necessity, you can help prevent excess sweating, which releases the odor, by drinking sage tea.
