Cockatiel birds are originally from Australia. They are between 10 to 13 inches in length and weigh about 3 oz. Cockatiels have a friendly personality and are known to be docile and gentle. They are easy to care for and are known to be wonderful pets.

Cockatiels can be a variety of colors. Gray with a yellow head and orange cheek patches are common traits. Males have brighter colors than females.

Cockatiels enjoy a roomy cage. The minimum cage size for one cockatiel should be at least 18 inches across and 24 inches high.
Exercise

Cockatiels need to have at least an hour a day outside of their cage to exercise. They enjoy the freedoms of walking around, sitting on your shoulder or flying in the house if their wings are not clipped.
Considerations

Male cockatiels are better talkers and whistlers than females. However, females are known to be more affectionate, quieter, and more acrobatic than males.
