This cushion brush is an example of a brush that you can use on dry hair.

You cannot dry brush your hair with just any brush. There are several different types of brushes intended for different purposes and hair types. Some brushes can be used on dry hair. Others will break and damage the hair if they are used on dry hair. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Natural Bristle

    • Natural-bristled brushes are the most recommended brushes for dry brushing. Natural bristles are set close together in tight clumps, and all of the bristles are the same length.

    Plastic Bristle

    • Plastic-bristled brushes can also be used if the bristles are set in a cushion. The bristles must all be the same length and possess rounded tips.

    Vent Brushes

    • Vent brushes are plastic-bristled brushes that should only be used on wet hair. The bristles are set in a brush that has spaces or vents for air to flow through while blow drying. The brushes can be of any size and shape. The bristles on vent brushes are usually not the same length.

    Wet Hair

    • Never use a hair brush that is intended for dry hair on wet hair because it will cause breakage. Use a comb, pick or vent brush on wet hair.

    Curly Hair

    • Extremely curly hair should never be brushed without first loosening the curls with a pick or comb.
