CD Vs. DVD File Storage

DVDs and CDs are used to store digital data, but a DVD is used for bigger files like videos. There are different ways to store data on DVDs and CDs.

CD-R

A CD-R has the smallest amount of storage space. It holds about 80 minutes of audio, 700 MB.

Rewritable CDs

A CD-RW's storage capacity is equal to a CD-R's, but a CD-R can only be burned once. Data can be replaced with a CD-RW.

DVD-Rs

DVDs hold much more data than CDs. DVD-Rs hold about 4.7 GB of data. Unlike CD-Rs, DVD-Rs burn video files that can then be watched directly on a DVD player.

Rewritable DVDs

A DVD-RW has equal storage capacity to a DVD-R, but the benefit is it can be recorded over multiple times. DVD-RWs are the most economical choice for those who record video.

DL Discs

Double layer (DL) discs for blank DVDs and CDs offer double the storage capacities of a typical CD-R or DVD-R.
