What Is Considered High School Bullying?

Bullying is a problem experienced in school systems throughout the world. Howeverm the bullying that takes place in high school is often very different from that which occurs in grade or middle school.

Features

Bullying can be non-violent or violent behavior. Acts of bullying range from stealing lunch money to physically abusing a student.

Identification

Bullying is not done accidentally, as bullies engage in their activities for a reason. They typically seek to gain control over an individual for a wide variety of reasons, including jealousy and inferiority.

High School

Bullies in high school tend to pick on people who are the same age as they are, while those in grade school prefer targeting younger peers. High school girls usually rely on verbal abuse, directing their venom at an individual's looks or status, while their male counterparts tend to get physical. They usually direct this behavior at kids who are perceived to be the outcasts.

Considerations

Bullies in high school tend to have trouble making friends. They feel that by bullying the outcast, they will in turn be accepted by everyone else.

Theories/Speculation

It is thought that bullies often come from broken homes, where the relationship between parents is strained. Bullies also are thought to lash out because of their academic failures or inabilities.
