What Are the Duties of the Groom's Family?

The groom often gets overlooked when planning a wedding. He does have some specific responsibilities, however, that he and his family should take care of. Although these duties are not many, they are still important.

The Ring

It is the groom's responsibility to pick out and pay for the bride's wedding band.

Mother of the Groom

It is up to the groom's mother to invite the bride's family over for dinner or drinks after the engagement has been announced, so they can get to know each other. This can be difficult if they live in different cities, but a phone call is still appreciated.

The Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner is the time for the groom and his family to put on a party. Whether it is at a restaurant, hotel or home, the groom's family plans and executes the rehearsal dinner.

Guest List

It is up to the groom to provide a guest list from their side of the family to the bride's family. It is important that they get this done in a timely manner and stick to the correct number of guests.

The Honeymoon

The groom traditionally plans the honeymoon. Although the groom can ask the bride's thoughts on a destination, it is up to the groom to take care of reservations and plans.
