Slow Oxidizer Diet Nutrition Information

Slow oxidizers are those people who do well on high-carbohydrate diets, with less protein and fat in their meals. They require specific nutrients to support their metabolic type.

  1. Vegetables

    • According to Dr. Lawrence Wilson, slow oxidizers require organic cooked vegetables and high-quality proteins to help maintain blood sugar and support the adrenal and thyroid glands. Cooked vegetables provide slow oxidizers vitamins and minerals and do not require a lot of digestive energy. Fresh root vegetables such as carrots, parsnips and celery root are excellent.

    Protein

    • Fast oxidizers should eat three to five ounces of protein in each meal. White meats, eggs, cheese and yogurt are preferred. Beef and fish can also occasionally be used as sources of protein, as can beans and nuts.

    Fats and Oils

    • Slow oxidizers benefit from up to two tablespoons of butter, coconut oil or palm oil each day.

    Snacks and Drinks

    • Good snacks for slow oxidizers include nuts and seeds, eggs, chicken or pieces of beef or turkey jerky. Slow oxidizers should drink 4 to 8 glasses of filtered water a day. Green tea and fresh carrot juice are other good choices.

    Foods to Reduce or Avoid

    • Slow oxidizers should avoid cakes, cookies, ice cream sodas, fruit juices, and any foods high in sugar and other sweeteners. Grains should also be limited.
