Mildew is a dangerous type of fungus that grows in moist environments. It is often characterized by its white powdery or downy appearance, but it can hide in houses where it's not easy to spot, such as behind wallpaper and under baseboards. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. The Most Vulnerable

    • Mildew in homes can cause severe allergic reactions in those prone to allergies or with a suppressed immune system and can trigger asthmatic attacks in asthma sufferers. It can even cause the early onset of asthma in young children.

    Recent Studies

    • A public health study conducted by Brown University and published by The American Journal of Public Health in 2007 identified a link between mildew in houses and depression.

    Other Efects

    • Even in healthy people, mildew can cause chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), headaches, eye and skin irritation, memory impairment and respiratory distress, including wheezing, coughing and difficulty breathing.

    • Mildew has been identified as a cause of Building Related Illness (BRI) and Sick Building Syndrome (SBS).
