When selecting exercise equipment, it is important to consider the different features offered by each piece of equipment. While the Pilates Power Gym and Total Home Gym both provide a thorough workout, the two machines offer extremely different exercises.
Only one version of the Pilates Power Gym is available. Total Home Gym is available in three different models, which vary in terms of extra features, abilities and accessories.
Pilates Power Gym focuses on the movements associated with Pilates practice. It uses long, gliding motions to tone muscles in the back, shoulders, arms, abs, calves, thighs and hips. Total Home Gym offers over 80 different exercises for all the major muscle groups.
The Pilates Power Gym weighs 61 pounds and will hold up to 300 pounds. Total Gym 2000 will hold up to 250 pounds, Total Gym 3000 will hold 300 pounds and Total Gym XLS will hold up to 400 pounds. The three models weigh between 90 and 100 pounds.
Pilates Power Gym is manufactured by Kaswit Inc., which offers a 12-month warranty on the product. Total Home Gym is manufactured by Total Gym Fitness, LLC, which offers a lifetime limited warranty on the equipment frame and some moving parts.
If purchased online through the manufacturers, the Total Home Gym is more expensive than the Pilates Power Gym. In 2010, the Pilates Power Gym sells for around $350. The Total Gym 2000 sells for about $600, Total Gym 3000 sells for $849 and Total Gym XLS sells for just under $1,450.
