Difference Between Aleve & Aleve Arthritis

Aleve is an over-the-counter pain reliever from the Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug family. Aleve Easy Open Arthritis contains the same active ingredient as regular Aleve but comes in a container with a twist-off cap that is easier to open.

  1. Ingredients

    • Both Aleve and Aleve Easy-Open Arthritis contain 220 milligrams of naproxen sodium per dose, with inactive ingredients including magnesium stearate, talc and polyethylene glycol. According to Aleve.com, the Easy-Open Arthritis cap has received acclaim from the Arthritis Foundation for ease of use.

    Effects

    • NSAIDs like Aleve work by blocking the production of pain-causing chemicals called prostaglandins. They are also useful for lowering fever and reducing inflammation.

    Adverse Reactions

    • Like other NSAIDs, Aleve can cause serious side effects such as stomach bleeding, heart attack and stroke, according to Drug Information Online. More common side effects include nausea, skin rash and dizziness.

    Indications

    • Aleve is effective in treating minor pain caused by inflammation. Suggested uses for Aleve include menstrual cramps, fever, arthritis pain, toothache and headache.

    Warning

    • Unlike regular Aleve, the Aleve Easy-Open Arthritis cap is not childproof. To prevent the risk of accidental overdose, keep Aleve out of the reach of children.
