Infrared Cooking & Safety

One of the newest, hottest cooking technologies available to the public, infrared grills, use a special burner that converts electric, gas or charcoal energy into infrared energy to produce a super-hot cooking surface perfect for searing or sautéing quickly. Cooking with an infrared cooking surface is generally safe, but a few precautions are necessary to stay out of harm's way. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Flammable Liquids

    • To avoid combustion, do not store gasoline or other flammable liquids within 15 feet of the infrared grill.

    Placement

    • Do not use infrared grills within a foot of combustible materials such as wood, plastic or canvas.

    Gas Safety

    • For gas-powered infrared grills, store LP gas cylinders in a protected cool, dry place away from children when not in use.

    Proper Ventilation

    • To avoid smoke inhalation, only use infrared grills in open spaces and not garages, sheds or other improperly ventilated areas.

    Safety While Cooking

    • Do not leave infrared grills unattended while in use. When handling food, prevent burns by only using tongs and spatulas to place food and remove food from the grill. Also, avoid wearing flammable, loose-hanging clothing while grilling.
