Different varieties of Bee Balm are found growing wildly all over the United States---except Alaska and Hawaii---as well as most of Canada.
Conditions Favored

All varieties of Bee Balm thrive in either full sunlight or partially shaded areas. They tend to favor soil that is neutral in ph levels and is not overly moist.

Identification

This perennial blooms from June to August, but don't search for a single flower. It's more likely that you'll find a bed of them since they reproduce rapidly. The flowers, which can be red, pink, violet, or white, grow on thick, square stalks that can reach up to 4 feet high.
Scarlet Bee Balm

Scarlet Bee Balm, the variety used to make Oswego Tea, inhabits most of the eastern half of the United States in addition to the states of Washington and Oregon. In Canada, this plant is found in New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario.
White Bee Balm

White Bee Balm dwells in the eastern United States, namely in Florida, Maine and New Hampshire.
Lemon Bee Balm

There are a few species of Lemon Bee Balm, but most are located in the southern half of the United States as well as in most mid-western and mid-eastern states.
