Juice Fast for Stomach Pain
Depending on the type of stomach pain, a juice fast can help cleanse the intestines, liver and colon, and bring relief. Different juices and regimens can be used for various stomach problems.
-
Constipation
-
A high-fat diet can lead to a buildup in the colon, a common source of stomach pain. If you are experiencing constipation, a short one-to-three-day fast on green vegetable juice and fruit juices like apple and pear juice can help flush waste out and get the bowels moving again.
Gas
-
While fruit and vegetables are healthy, they may also cause gas. According to Mayo Clinic, this is due to their high fiber content. Juicing vegetables and fruits removes the pulp and fiber, giving you the necessary vitamins and nutrients without causing gas.
-
Ulcers
-
According to the Fasting website, fasting is ideal for treating ulcers because the stomach is not digesting, giving the ulcer a chance to heal. Try lime, cabbage, fenugreek, carrot and green vegetable juices for this fast.
Types of Juice
-
When fasting, drink only fresh, unpasteurized fruit and vegetable juice. Different juices will aid different stomach symptoms; for example, black cherry juice aids menstrual problems, pear juice helps gallbladder pain, and pineapple juice is good for digestion.
Warning
-
Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., warns that, while vegetable juice counts as a serving of vegetables, it lacks fiber that you need. Do not begin a long juice fast without consulting your doctor.
