Healthy hair promotes hair growth.

If you've recently had a bad haircut or maybe just want a longer hair style, there are some reasons why your hair might not be growing as fast as you wish. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Breakage

    • If you use harsh chemicals such as perms, relaxers or bleach, your hair may be damaged. Hair growth is inhibited by hair breakage, which occurs when you have over-processed hair or otherwise mistreat it.

    Genetics

    • If both of your parents have hair that doesn't grow very fast, then the probability of you having such hair increases. According to a November 10, 2006 article in Science magazine, "human hair growth deficiency is linked to a genetic defect."

    Diet

    • Having a poor diet affects the health of your hair. Drink plenty of water, take vitamin and mineral supplements, eat green vegetables and lots of protein.

    Trims

    • Some people believe that the more you trim your hair, the faster it grows. There is no evidence supporting this theory. However, trims will prevent split ends.

    Stress

    • According to Karen Shelton at Hair Boutique, excessive stress is known to retard hair growth. Become stress-free and your hair will be healthier.
