Progesterone Cream for Joint Pain

Natural progesterone cream is used to treat a number of ailments. Trials by Dr. Karen Romano prove that adding this transdermal cream to a treatment regimen can relieve joint pain and increase bone density.

  1. History

    • Progesterone treatment dates back to 1934. It was used in its crystalline form to treat a number of disorders, including infertility, arthritis, and as a preventative for miscarriage.

    Function

    • Progesterone is not a sex hormone and is present in both men and women. Essential to building bone mass, it works in conjunction with the body's osteoblastic cells to create bone.

    Deficiency

    • Women with luteal phase failure are not producing enough progesterone in the second part of the menstrual cycle. This can compromise the health of joints and bones.

    Benefits

    • Dr. John Lee suggests that oral administration of progesterone is filtered by the liver. This means that roughly 10 to 20 percent of a dosage is absorbed by the body. Conversely, topical application of progesterone cream is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream.

    Dosage

    • Progesterone cream is available over the counter and by prescription and should be taken as directed.

    Side Effects

    • There are no side effects of natural progesterone cream. Synthetic progesterone or progestin should be avoided because it only offers temporary relief from symptoms and carries serious side effects.
