Symptoms of a Bad Water Pump

The water pump is the heart of your car's cooling system. It's imperative that you keep it working properly. Many different problems can occur with the water pump; however, the symptoms of a problem are fairly easy to notice. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Overheating

    • One of the more common symptoms of a bad water pump is the car overheating. Steam may come from the engine as you are driving down the road or sitting at a stoplight or stop sign.

    Leakage

    • A weep hole about the size of a pencil tip will begin to leak coolant through this hole trailing down the side of your engine.

    Noise

    • As the pump begins to age, a squealing noise may come from the hole occurring at each revolution of the pump.

    Coolant Pools

    • Pools of liquid in a usual parking spot, garage, or driveway may mean that your water pump seals are leaking and needs replacement.

    Air Conditioning

    • If no cool air is coming out of the dashboard vents, it may be due to a failing water pump. The air conditioning may no longer work properly if the water pump is damaged.
