A number of repellents are available to keep squirrels at bay.

Rabbits and ground squirrels can become unruly pests, destroying flowers, raiding vegetable gardens and terrorizing bird feeders. A number of repellents are available to keep rabbits and squirrels under control. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Fox Urine

    • Foxes are natural predators for rabbits and ground squirrels, and applying fox urine around the yard will keep the pesky critters away. Bottles are available online and at many garden and hunting supply stores. The only drawback is fox urine needs to be reapplied every few days.

    Shake-Away

    • A more refined form of fox urine, Shake-Away is a commercial product that comes in either powder form or granules. When used outdoors, Shake-Away must be reapplied every one to two weeks or immediately after heavy rains.

    Critter Ridder

    • Available in granules, concentrate, or spray, Critter Ridder is a certified organic mixture of black pepper, piperin, capsaicin and other natural irritants.

    Ro-Pel

    • Ro-Pel combines a nontoxic solvent with a chemical mixture to give whatever it's sprayed on a bitter taste, discouraging unwanted chewing.

    Squirrel Away

    • Made from capsicum peppers, Squirrel Away is designed to mix with bird feed. While ground squirrels hate the taste, birds don't mind it.
