Printer paper in the United States is measured in inches and is also referred to by a letter and or name designation. Printer paper in other countries is measured in millimeters. This article will list some of the most common sizes of printer paper in the U.S. along with the metric equivalent.

A (letter)

  • Letter sized paper measures 8.5" x 11" or 216 x 279 mm. This type of paper is the most common paper size in the U.S. Letter sized paper is used for a wide variety of printing needs including correspondence, signs, and other documents.

Legal

  • Legal sized paper measures 8.5" x 14" or 216 x 236 mm. This type of paper is commonly used for legal documents such as contracts.

B (ledger)

  • B or ledger sized paper measures 11" x 17" or 279 x 432 mm. This type of paper is often used for booklets as it can be folded and saddle stapled.

Super B/Super A3

  • Super B/Super A3 sized paper measures 13" x 19" or 330 x 483 mm. This type of paper is commonly used for printing CAD (computer aided design) drawings.

C

  • C sized paper measures 17" x 22" or 432 x 559 mm. This paper is often used in engineering plotting printers.

D

  • D sized paper measures 22" x 34" or 559 x 864 mm. This paper is commonly used for printing engineering designs.
