Beverage Cart Etiquette
Many golf courses offer beverage cart service so that patrons can enjoy beer, wine, and hard and soft drinks. Purchasing and consuming items from the beverage cart has its own set of etiquette, and each course may also have its own rules about beverage consumption.
-
Time Frame
-
A golfer should pace himself when consuming liquor from the beverage cart and drink water between each alcoholic drink. Excess alcohol consumption during a golf outing can lead to unsafe and uninviting conditions--when judgment is impaired, injuries can more easily occur.
Tipping
-
It is considered polite and generous for a golfer to tip her server at the beverage cart. The appropriate tip amount is usually relative to the cost of playing at the club.
-
Relationships
-
It is a friendly gesture for a golfer to purchase drinks for golfing partners, including business partners or acquaintances. If a golfer is ordering a second round and the previous one was covered by a golfing partner, he should purchase the round.
Location
-
Many golf courses do not permit beverages brought from outside to be consumed on premises. A golfer should bring enough money to cover the beverages.
Benefits
-
Beverage carts offer water to help golfers stay hydrated. The beverage cart provides golfers with water--hydration is important, especially in the heat. Many consider it appropriate to consume a moderate amount of alcohol during golf.
