What Is Microsoft Front Page?

Microsoft FrontPage was Microsoft's web development tool. According to the Microsoft website, FrontPage was discontinued in 2006, but the company still offers support for FrontPage 2003, the last version released. FrontPage was replaced by two different web development tools: Expression Web and Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer.

  1. Web Pages

    • Microsoft FrontPage is used to build web pages, ranging from a simple information page to a complicated questionnaire that customers can fill out and send to the web page owner.

    Websites

    • Entire sites can be built in FrontPage. A company or individual can include sound, video, graphics, forms and other multi-media tools to offer a total Internet experience.

    Maintenance

    • Website maintenance using FrontPage is as easy as opening the website directory, clicking the web page you need to update and making the edits. Uploading and downloading the web pages can be done from the directory as well.

    Style Sheets and Templates

    • Style sheets are used to design websites with one clean style environment. They make updating and adding pages easier because the style sheet applies template settings to each page that is created. Making changes to the style sheet incorporates the changes to all pages of the website instead of having to update each individual page.

    Expression Web and SharePoint

    • These are the replacement web development tools for FrontPage. Expression Web is used to design websites while SharePoint is an overall business development tool used on the SharePoint platform.
