What Does Fraxel Restore Do?

What Does Fraxel Restore Do? thumbnail
Fraxel Re:Store attempts to rejuvenate skin.

Fraxel Re:Store uses a technique developed in 2001 called fractional photothermolysis. This is a series of laser treatments that target issues such as acne scars, wrinkles, pigmentation problems and loose skin.

  1. Function

    • The goal of Fraxel Re:Store treatments is to create a more youthful-looking appearance. This treatment can be used on the face, neck, chest, abdomen, thighs, arms and hands.

    Features

    • Fraxel Re:Store involves pulses from a laser directed at tiny areas of skin in the desired area. It causes controlled damage in the area of treatment, and new skin grows back to replace the damaged skin. For most patients, the procedure takes about 30 minutes.

    Time Frame

    • Fraxel Re:Store involves mild to moderate pain. There is no post-surgical wound care. Some redness and swelling may occur for a day or two, but normal social activities can resume in one to three days after treatment. The clinician or specialist will discuss sunscreen and other skin care with the patient to ensure skin protection and optimal healing.

    Warning

    • Risks of Fraxel Re:Store include pigmentation problems, pain, scarring, crusting, burning, itching, acne-like breakouts, milia (white bumps or small cysts on the skin), herpes and petechiae (rash).

    Considerations

    • Those who experience poor wound healing, keloid formation or who have used Acutane in the last 12 months should avoid Fraxel Re:Store.

    Expert Insight

    • Fraxel Re:Store is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a minimally invasive procedure.
