Different Designs in Indo-Western Dresses
Traditional women's fashion of India are the salwar kameez, kurta and sari. As the cultures of East and West draw closer together due to the influences of globalization, timeless Indian fashion is converted and reimagined, resulting in exciting and elegant styles of Indo-Western dresses. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Salwar Kameez
-
The salwar kameez consists of a long flowing tunic, the "kameez," over long loose trousers, "salwar," worn with a "dupatta," a long, flowing scarf. Designers have converted this Indian staple into Western-style trouser suits by slitting or shortening the salwar.
Kurta
-
Indian kurtas, traditionally long loose-fitting blouses, are shortened and tailored to more closely resemble Western-style blouses. Often the traditional long sleeves are shortened to cap sleeves or spaghetti straps.
-
Kaftan Dress
-
Another variation on the kaftan is a straight, looser silhouette of patterned cotton or silk.
Sari
-
The most elegant of Indian women's dress, the sari--a strip of long cloth draped around the body--has evolved to be like Western ball gowns: more elaborate and embellished.
Famous Ties
