Reason for Morning Dizziness & Nausea

Nausea and dizziness can be caused by many things. Although nausea and dizziness are not usually serious, it is important to stay well hydrated and contact a doctor if your condition worsens.

Possible Causes

There are many possible causes of morning dizziness and nausea, including morning sickness, migraines, motion sickness, getting up too quickly, dehydration and flu.

Morning Sickness

Morning sickness, involving nausea and vomiting, often occurs within the first trimester of pregnancy because of an increase in hormones. Although it can occur at any time of the day, it happens most frequently in the morning.

Home Treatment

Drink clear fluids if you are dizzy or nauseous, and avoid sudden changes in posture. Eat small amounts of bland foods, like crackers.

Warning

Seek medical care immediately if you have a fever over 101 degrees F, chest pain, blood in your vomit, a stiff neck or if you have sustained a head injury.

Diagnostic Tests

If you experience severe nausea or dizziness, your doctor may order blood pressure tests, MRIs, neurological tests, urinalysis and abdominal x-rays to rule out serious illness.
