Lily of the Valley Varieties

Lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis) is a woodland perennial that is a nice groundcover for shady gardens. There are at least eight cultivars or varieties of this plant from which to choose. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Variety Rosea

    • The pink flowering version of lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis var. rosea) grows to 8 inches tall with pale mauve-pink blossoms.

    Variegated Cultivars

    • Cultivar Variegata has leaves dappled in green and ivory white. Long striped white and green leaves exist on Albostriata and yellow stripes form on foliage of Aureovariegata.

    Prolificans

    • Growing 9 inches tall, cultivar Prolificans has branching flower stems with little flowers that are occasionally malformed.

    Hardwick Hall

    • Hardwick hall has broad foliage with pale green edges and pale greenish white blossoms, growing 10 inches tall overall.

    Fortin's Giant

    • A vigorous selection, it grows 12 inches tall with wide leaves and comparatively large-sized white flowers.

    Flore Pleno

    • This cultivated variety grows just like the species form, but with flowers that are double, with extra rows of petals.
