History of JCB Backhoes
The JCB backhoe, also known as a digger, is one of the series of heavy equipment machines manufactured and sold by J.C. Bamford Excavators Ltd. It is, however, for a major reason, the company's most important product line.

A backhoe is more accurately a backhoe loader. The backhoe only refers to one part of this type of vehicle, which consists of the tractor itself and a front-digging bucket. The backhoe is the digging bucket placed at the back of the tractor as the end of a two-part articulated arm.

The backhoe loader was the invention of Joseph Bamford, an Englishman who lived from 1916 to 2001. He did this by adding buckets to the front and back of a farm tractor in 1953.

Founding of JCB

Bamford used his invention of the backhoe as the foundation of his company, JCB. In 1961, Bamford introduced a line of backhoe loaders dubbed "3C." By 1964, JCB had sold more than 3,000 backhoe loaders, especially in North America.

JCB manufactures and sells more than backhoe loaders. The company also deals with excavators, diesel engines, dump trucks, forklifts and traditional tractors.

By the time Bamford died in 2001, JCB was the largest privately owned engineering company in Great Britain. It employed about 4,500 people and had 12 factories on three continents, producing 30,000 machines a year.
