Police Report Party Definition

Police write down the names of citizens who experienced crime in a neighborhood in a police report. The police use the names in the report to resolve the crime.

  1. Citizens Involved

    • In a police report, the police name each citizen involved in an incident. The officers also note witnesses, bystanders and relatives as parties.

    Crimes Against Citizens

    • For violent crimes and crimes of deceit, the offender and the victim, or wronged citizen, are considered the main parties. An officer can also write down accomplices and associates that participated in planning or committing the crime.

    Property Crimes

    • When property is taken or damaged, the reporting officer records the names of the thief or vandal and the property owner. Residents can also aid an investigation.

    Traffic Violations

    • Traffic accidents and moving violations involve three kinds of main parties: the drivers, the injured citizens and the owners of damaged vehicles and other property. Riders, and nearby pedestrians and residents, can be parties.

    Involved in Incident

    • Involved parties each participated in a criminal event or received a bodily injury or property damage during the event.
