Plastic CD Case

CD cases help protect the CD from environmental contaminations that impair the use of the CD. They are made out of plastic, glass or fabric, and are available in a wide variety of colors. The cases are made in circular, rectangular, or a combination of square and circular shapes. Audio CDs have areas where you can attach liner notes describing the contents of the CD.

  1. Identification

    • CD cases are fabric, plastic or glass containers that hold compact discs, media devices that contain music or data intended to be read by a computer embedded on their surface. Manufacturers like discmakers.com also call them jewel cases.

    Shape and color

    • CD cases are available in various shapes, like square, a circular edge on three sides with a flat bottom and rectangular. They are available in every color you can imagine as well as clear plastic.

    Construction

    • The plastic, square CD cases have semi-circular pieces of plastic on the inside of the front cover to hold literature that helps describe the contents of the CD. The back portion contains a circular depression for the compact disc and a circular object to hold the center of the CD in place.

    Capacity

    • CD cases can hold one CD each, but may have more than one CD within the constructed container. If plastic sleeves are used, then they can be loaded into a fabric container or case that keeps the CDs organized using a ring-binder system, which may have 20 to 50 CDs in each case.

    Function

    • CD cases help keep dust, dirt, grime and other contaminants from adhering to the surface of the CD, which would interfere with the laser that reads the information stored on the media.
