Job Description of a Restaurant Stock Supervisor

Restaurants order a variety of fresh, dry and canned food products for use in the preparation of recipes. In some restaurants, stock supervisors oversee these supplies.

  1. Function

    • Restaurant stock supervisors work with chefs to determine the amount of various ingredients needed for a specific period of time and then order the necessary items from suppliers. When stock arrives, supervisors oversee unpacking and storing the supplies and monitor how much of the ingredients the kitchen staff uses on a daily basis.

    Features

    • Some restaurant stock supervisors work for restaurant chains and handle the supplies and ingredients of multiple locations. Supervisors who work for multiple locations or very large restaurants may use computer systems to monitor inventory levels.

    Requirements

    • Employers typically require restaurant stock supervisors to have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, and some look for supervisors who have an associate or bachelor's degree in food service or restaurant management. Experience working with restaurant stock and ordering is an addition common requirement.

    Compensation

    • As of December 2009, restaurant stock supervisors averaged annual salaries of $45,000, reports Indeed.com.

    Considerations

    • At many restaurants, general managers handle the responsibilities of restaurant stock supervisors in addition to overseeing the kitchen staff and team of servers.
