The United States spans nine time zones.

The Pacific and Eastern time zones in the United States differ by exactly three hours. When Seattle dwellers are just waking up, New York residents may already be finishing their second business meeting. And when Miami's population is going to sleep, Los Angeles residents may be just sitting down to dinner.

  1. Official Time

    • The official U.S. time is available at Time.gov, which shows the current time for each of the four continental U.S. time zones. It also shows the correct time for Alaska, Hawaii, the Pacific territories and Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

    U.S Time Zones

    • The United States includes nine time zones. Moving from east to west, they are Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, Hawaii-Aleutian, Samoa and Chamorro.

    Eastern Time Zone Boundaries

    • The western border of the Eastern time zone runs through Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida.

    Pacific Time Zone Boundaries

    • The Pacific time zone includes part or all of the following states: California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

    Standard and Daylight Times
