Educators are relying more on tablet computers

School districts across the United States are equipping teachers with tablet computers to introduce technology into lessons. According to Edtech Magazine, school districts like the Indian Hill Exempted Village School District outside Cincinnati, Ohio have provided all teachers with tablet notebooks since 2003.

  1. Mobility

    • Tablet computers are small and sturdy. An educator with a tablet computer can move throughout her classroom, using the tablet to take notes on student work or display information to students.

    Features

    • Tablets can assist teachers with recording attendance, calculating grades, presenting lessons, answering emails, calendaring events and playing audio and video files. The tablet computer will replace old paper lesson plan books, attendance rolls and dry erase boards.

    Student Use of Technology

    • Students using a tablet, can take notes with the stylus and highlight or circle especially important material. Students can combine written notes and drawings into one document and move text and images around a page with a click of the stylus.

    Noise Level

    • A teacher or student using a tablet computer will work almost silently, relying upon a stylus or touch pad instead of a keyboard. This reduced-noise level can help students concentrate on their tasks and minimize distractions.

    Assistance for Visual-Spatial Learners

    • According to Visualspatial.org, 60 percent of students in regular classrooms learn best with visual-spatial presentations. Tablet computers allow teachers and students to view, create, and manipulate charts, graphs and images.
