Tulips are a type of perennial flower that belongs to the genus Tulipa. Tulips are one of the most popular and recognizable types of flowers, and are especially marketed for Easter and Valentine's Day. Tulips originated in central Asia, including China and Siberia. They were first bred in Persia in the 12th and 13th centuries. Tulips were brought to Europe in the 16th century, and became especially popular as a trade commodity in Holland.

Tulips have two or three thick leaves that cluster near the bottom of the plant. The flowers are solitary and bell-shaped.

Tulips grow in many colors, including white, yellow, pink, red and purple, but not blue. Red tulips are the most popular.
