Reactions to Inner Ear Problems

Inner ear problems are usually caused by another infection involving the sinus or throat area or a problem with the inner ear itself such as Acoustic Neuroma (a non-cancerous tumor that develops along the inner ear nerves). There are different problems that can occur when a person has an inner ear problem.

  1. Vertigo

    • Dizziness is a prominent effect of an inner ear problem as the inner ear controls a person's balance. He may experience either subjective vertigo, which is the person feels that he or she is spinning, or objective vertigo, the area around the person feels as though it is spinning. This is usually called by a fluid build-up.

    Tinnitus

    • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) is caused by damaged hearing nerves. This can occur due to age or prolonged exposure to loud sounds and noises without proper protection.

    Hearing Loss

    • Often called Sudden Hearing Loss Syndrome, it can occur as quickly as overnight or gradually over a short period. This reaction is sometimes short lived with the hearing gradually returning over time.

    Vision Problems

    • An inner ear infection can lead so some vision problems such as blurry vision where a person cannot see fine details clearly or a person can experience double vision where the eyes will each focus on a different target and the brain will accept both.

Unusual Reactions to Inner Ear Problems

    • A person can experience such effects as motion sickness, confusion, fatigue or slurred speech with an inner ear infection although they do not happen every often and most are due to the above problems.
