Nausea and Lower Abdominal Pain

In most cases, lower abdominal pain and nausea are probably related to an upset stomach or the stomach flu. However, in some cases severe lower abdominal pain and nausea may be indicative of a serious medical condition.

Lower Abdominal Pain

Lower abdominal pain with nausea may be attributed to the stomach flu, appendicitis, diverticulitis and/or an intestinal obstruction.

Lower Left Abdominal Pain

Lower left abdominal pain may occur as the result of an appendicitis, Crohn's disease, diverticulitis and/or an intestinal obstruction.

Lower Right Abdominal Pain

Conditions that may cause lower right abdominal pain and nausea include appendicitis, gall bladder inflammation, diverticulitis and/or an intestinal obstruction.

Considerations

The Mayo Clinic recommends prompt medical treatment if the pain prevents you from sitting still or if the only way to alleviate the pain somewhat is to curl your body into a ball. Also, pain that is associated with persistent nausea may indicate a serious medical condition that requires immediate medical treatment.

Treatment

Try taking a warm bath to sooth abdominal pain. Refrain from taking over-the-counter pain medications; these medications often make the problem worse.
