While the chrysanthemum is the flower of the royal Japanese family, it is also the flower most associated with death in Japan. It is the traditional funeral flower and would NEVER be given to someone as a housewarming gift or for any purpose outside of funerals or decorating a gravesite. To do so would be a major faux pas.
