Although rabbits are gentle animals, they can also be pests when they enter your garden and eat your vegetables. There are some methods you can try to discourage rabbits from eating your garden. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Types of Vegetables

    • Since rabbits prefer greens, peas, beets and beans, plant other vegetables instead of the rabbit favorites. Try planting cucumbers, peppers, potatoes, squash and corn.

    Fences

    • Rabbits, in general, will be deterred by a fence that is flush to the ground and at least 2 feet tall. Make sure any spacing in the fence is less than 2 inches. An easy material to use is chicken wire that you press about half an inch into the ground to prevent the rabbits from going under it.

    Smells

    • Purchase fox urine from online or a hunting supply store. Place a few drops of the urine on a cotton ball and use a piece of twine to tie the cotton ball to your garden's fence. You can also purchase dried blood from the same places and sprinkle that around the garden. Reapply either method every other day and after every rain.

    Hair

    • Visit your local hair salon or your local groomers and ask them for a bag of cut hair. Sprinkle the hair around the garden to deter the rabbits.

    Plant Cages

    • Cut chicken wire to your desired shape and cover your plants with it to make it more difficult for the rabbits to reach it.
