What Material Is Best for Kitchen Sinks?
Choosing the right type of kitchen sink can be difficult, and in large part depends on the style of home and preference of the owner. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Durability
-
Stainless steel sinks are extremely durable and resistant to chips and scratches. Granite and cast iron sinks are strong but susceptible to chipping around the corners and acrylic sinks stain easily.
Appearance
-
Granite and marble sinks offer a classic and traditional look, while stainless steel sinks appear modern and clean. Pottery and ceramic sinks are customizable and will fit almost any homeowner's style.
-
Maintenance
-
Sensitive kitchen sinks materials like acrylic and fiberglass require mild cleaners, while stainless steel is much harder to stain. It is best to first try warm water and mild soap on granite and marble sinks, as they can sometimes stain.
Weight
-
Heavier kitchen sinks such as those made from granite, marble or cast iron may require additional support underneath because of their weight. This can create additional expense during installation.
Cost
-
Sinks made from natural materials such as granite or quartz are more expensive than those made from stainless steel or ceramic, but they also add value to a home.
