Swiss Army & Survival Knives

The Swiss Army Knife, produced by the Swiss companies Victorinox and Wenger, is a multitool utility knife. The name Swiss Army knife has become synonymous with multitool knives, consisting of a blade as well as other useful features.

  1. History

    • Karl Eisner was commissioned with the duty to produce a multitool knife for Swiss soldiers. He first registered his idea, or the soldier's knife, on June 12, 1897, in Schwyz, Switzerland.

    Victorinox

    • After the knives caught on internationally, Karl took the name of his mother, Victoria, and began producing his multi-tool under the Victorinox brand.

    Wenger

    • Wenger knives originated in 1895 when a second contract to produce a multitool was issued to Paul Boechat. The company was named for its first general manager, Theodore Wenger.

    Tools

    • Depending on a the model of knife you select for your specific needs, additional tools may include scissors, can opener, file, saw, scaler, ruler, bottle opener, screw driver, magnifying glass, chisel, pen, toothpick, corkscrew and tweezers.

    Modern Knives

    • Some models of modern multitool knives contain USB storage devices, LED lights and laser pointers.
