People who live in areas where they have a choice between Comcast or Verizon Fios are often bombarded by the two companies touting the reasons why each is the best. The fact is, both offer package deals and both have their benefits.

  1. Features

    • Comcast and Verizon Fios both offer phone, Internet and TV. When Fios was first introduced, it was much more expensive than Comcast, but the prices as of December 2009 for their bundled packages are about equal in price.

    Comcast Internet

    • To remain competitive with Fios, Comcast offers four levels of Internet speed, which include download and upload speeds, 12 Mpbs /2 Mbps, 16 Mpbs/2 Mpbs, 22 Mpbs/5 Mpbs and 50 Mpbs/10 Mpbs.

    Comcast Cable TV and Phone

    • Comcast offers digital phone service, which means the phone jack is plugged into the modem to receive service. The cable TV portion has a receiver box of its own.

    Verizon Fios Internet

    • Verizon Fios Internet offers three plans, including download and upload speeds, 15 Mbps/5 Mbps, 25 Mbps/15 Mbps and 50 Mbps/20 Mbps.

Verizon Fios Phone and Cable TV

    • The Verizon Fios phone is digital but does not require plugging into the modem; it plugs directly into the phone jack. The cable TV portion has its own receiver box.

    Significance

    • For those uploading and downloading many files, Fios is going to be the best option since overall. Fios is slightly faster than Comcast. Cable TV and the phone services are about the same in features and pricing. Up-time for both Comcast and Fios is about the same, with Fios beating Comcast with their same-day available outage service.
