Can You Plug a Monitor Into a Laptop?
Laptops are excellent for people who need a portable system for travel, but they're not very good for presentations and long-term use. Users can effectively increase the size of their laptop screen by plugging in an external monitor.

The Fact
-
Almost all modern laptops include some way to connect an external monitor to a laptop. Just about any video device can act as a monitor, such as a CRT screen or a projector.
Function
-
Most external monitors used with a laptop connect via a 15-pin connection, also known as VGA. To use this, users simply need to plug the monitor cable into the VGA port and switch the laptop's display mode to external--most laptops do this using the "Fn" key and an "F" function key.

Features
-
An external monitor can simply duplicate whatever appears on the laptop's screen, or it can increase the space of the desktop, known as "extended mode."
Benefits
-
Hooking up a monitor to a laptop can reduce the stress of constantly switching between applications or trying to read large portions of text, since most laptops have relatively little screen space.
Tips
-
Users can change the orientation of monitors in Windows without physically moving the monitor by going to "Settings" under "Display Properties" and dragging the preview screens to a new position.
