Coffee Connoisseurs

Coffeemakers or coffee percolators with glass pots and French press coffee pots make fabulous coffee that coffee connoisseurs can appreciate. As long as the proper handling and care advised by the manufacturer is followed, these types of glass coffeemakers are safe. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Risk of Injury

    • As with all glass kitchen products there is some chance of injury when using a glass coffee pot. Glass can break, but the chances of breaking during the cooking process are slim since most glass coffee pots are made from borosilicate glass.

    Coffee Pot Conditions

    • Glass coffee pots are unsafe if they have chips, cracks or other visible damage. Chips and cracks can weaken a coffee pot causing the glass to shatter when heated.

    Utensils

    • Metallic spoons are dangerous when used inside glass coffee pots. A metal spoon against a heated coffee pot can cause the coffee pot to break. Plastic spoons are safer with glass coffee pots.

    Acclimated Coffee Pot

    • An acclimated coffee pot, that has had warm water run through it, has less chance of shattering during the cooking process.

    Preventing Burns

    • The handle on a glass coffee pot is made to withstand heat. However, the handle may become hot when the coffee pot is used on a stove top. This is especially true for glass percolator pots, since all of the cooking is done on the stove top.
