Equine Medicine: What Is Banamine?
Banamine is a non-steroidal, non-narcotic pain reliever. It is often prescribed to relieve inflammation and fever associated with musculoskeletal disorders in horses. Banamine is also an effective treatment for pain associated with equine colic and surgery.

Banamine paste may be purchased by prescription in a multi-dose oral syringe. Always follow your veterinarian's instructions. Dosage is typically 0.5 mg per pound of body weight, once daily. Treatment is given for a maximum of five days. Banamine can also be purchased in an injectable form.
Storage

Many horse owners keep Banamine paste on hand because colic can progress rapidly. Banamine should be stored at between 36 and 86 degrees F. Keep Banamine out of the reach of children and pets.

According to Drugs.com, Veterinary Edition, Banamine begins to work within two hours of administration. Peak response will be achieved In 12 to 16 hours. The benefits should last between 24 and 36 hours.
Side Effects

Side effects are uncommon, but can include vomiting, diarrhea, exhaustion and lack of appetite. Kidney damage and stomach ulcers are also possible.

Once colic pain is relieved, a horse's condition can deteriorate even though he no longer appears ill. It is important to contact your veterinarian. Do not use Banamine on a horse who is already taking other non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs. Older horses might need a reduced dose if liver or kidney functions are compromised.

Horse's can not vomit- other than that this was a good general overview on a widely used treatment option.
