Bosses expect their employees to be responsible and flexible.

Companies may differ in services or products, but expectations for employees remain the same. While most bosses will have very specific expectations of their employees depending on the job, they will expect these general qualities.

  1. Professionalism

    • A good employee always maintains a professional demeanor when representing the company. This means treating customers and fellow employees with respect and courtesy at all times.

    Timeliness

    • Bosses expect their employees to be punctual. Excessive lateness or calling in sick frequently are not the habits of a good worker.

    Maturity

    • Offices often see a lot of gossip, which is distracting and unprofessional. Bosses prefer employees who focus their attention on their work, not personal matters, during work hours.

    Flexibility

    • Even the most well-run businesses must deal with the occasional surprise or crisis. Employers want workers who think clearly in these times, and who are ready to make any changes necessary to getting the job done.

    Responsibility

    • Everyone makes mistakes, and a good boss will understand that. Employees should always be honest, and ask for help when it's necessary. Bosses appreciate workers who hold themselves accountable for their work.

The Better Business Bureau (see ref 1)recommends that employers avoid micro-managing their workers, so employees should be self-motivated and push themselves to do their best.
