    • Created by the Thomas Organ Co. in 1966, the wah pedal is believed to be one of the first analog guitar pedals created. Ironically, the components that were used to make the first wah pedal were normally used for an organ volume pedal.

    • The guitar sounds of Jimi Hendrix were highly influenced by analog guitar pedals build in the early 1960s. Some of the effects first heard on his albums were a collaboration between Hendrix and early effects builder Roger Mayer.

    Tube Screamer TS808

    • The Ibanez 'Tube Screamer' TS808 is considered one of the best vintage overdrive guitar pedals due to the dual 1458 chips used to drive an amp into overdrive. This was the preferred overdrive of Stevie Ray Vaughan.

    Digital Effects

    • Boss ushered in the era of of digital effects in 1984 with the Boss DD-2 Digital Delay. This paved the way for multi-effect processors from companies like Digitec and Line 6.

    Resurgence of Analog

    • The debate between those who enjoy the more natural sound of analog effects and those who prefer the diversity of digital effects has led to a resurgence of analog effects. Currently most vintage effects can be purchased in the form of reissues by the original company that released them or through boutique effect suppliers.
